TERRACOTTAS
Some of the terracottas of the photos were made by the famous manufacturer of reproductions Seyni M. Karabenta, from Koulikoro, 60 km. far from Bamako, capital of Mali. They date back to the end of the seventies. The original ones come, among other places, from the curve of the Niger river, one of the more interesting cultural and artistic areas of Africa.
The anthropomorphous terracottas represent figures in three positions: standing, sitting and kneeling. The bodies of the more ancient terracottas are smooth, whereas the most recent ones were adorned with geometrical designs, necklaces, daggers into its cases, and bracelets in forearms and wrists.
The breasts in the feminine ones, are quite standed out. It is the only difference with the masculine ones, since the faces are indefinite enough.
